Cellar & Barrel Room Fogging

Wine cellar barrel humidification fogging system

Humidity is one of the most critical factors in wine preservation. Low humidity causes evaporation ("angel's share"), barrel shrinkage, structural damage, and unnecessary product loss. Misting SA provides precision-controlled high-pressure fogging systems designed specifically for wine cellars, barrel rooms, maturation houses, and boutique storage facilities. With more than 20 years of experience, we help wine estates improve product protection, reduce evaporation losses, and maintain cellar integrity year-round.

Why humidity matters in wine cellars

Evaporation control

Low humidity can cause up to 15% annual volume loss. Maintaining proper RH dramatically reduces evaporation.

Barrel protection

Dry barrels shrink, crack, and allow oxygen ingress, which can damage wine quality.

Cellar hygiene

Correct humidity keeps surfaces hydrated without wetting, preventing cracks and protecting the cellar environment.

Cork integrity

Adequate humidity ensures corks remain flexible and airtight.

Cost reduction

Less evaporation directly increases retained product volume and long-term profitability.

Benefits of high-pressure fogging

  • Stable humidity (65–75%) — ideal microclimate for barrel ageing
  • No wetting of barrels or floors — ultra-fine droplets evaporate instantly
  • Reduced evaporation losses — clients typically see 5–12% lower evaporation
  • Preserves barrel lifespan — oak remains hydrated and structurally stable
  • Improves wine quality consistency — predictable aromatics and maturation
  • Energy efficient — system uses only 0.55 kW versus 6–10 kW steam generators
  • Low maintenance — simple pump servicing and automated filtration

How the system works

The system uses a 70–80 bar high-pressure pump that forces water through micro nozzles, producing an ultra-fine fog that evaporates instantly.

  • Water passes through filtration
  • Fog is produced as micro-droplets
  • Droplets evaporate in the air
  • Humidity rises to the set range
  • Automation cycles the system as needed

Automation & monitoring

Automatic humidity regulation

System switches on when humidity drops and switches off when target RH is reached.
